I really enjoyed using verilog, and thought the gates idea was very interesting.  Using behavioral or dataflow verilog was a little hard because I did not know the real syntax of either.  
Using modules was pretty easy, it made verilog seem more like a C program w/ functions,
but debugging was very very difficult
