and you can create a while with if and goto

C has extra stuff because it makes things easier to code.  Its a lot better looking than having a whole bunch of goto statements.

MIPS has bne, bnq
MIPS people are followers of RISC.  So, they like only having realy simple stuff makes things faster.  All other instructions can probably be made with bne, bnq.

Your Answer for Question 3:
NOthing really.  But I have a comment about your labs.  They aren't hard, but the instructions are often unclear.  LIke in Wed's lab you wanted us to make a fibonacci type thing using MIPS.  Howver, you never actually wrote down fibonacci you wrote fib.  that's not cool.  oh, MIPS is annoying, but okay.
