IEEE 754 disadvantages are:
For correct implementation it requires extraordinary deligents in attention to details;
To make it run fastit needs exceptional designers.
some of its features such as exception handling and directed rounding doesn't balance the compiler and language issues.
The compiler community have been very slow in making this standard's unusual features available to the applictaions
programmer.
