1) a light it has a switch and produces(or not) light
2) A car... responds to two inputs (slower, faster) and does stuff accordingly - a car can only brake at a a certain finite limit, and as long as its not going downhill it has a finite acceleration
3) a mechanical pencil - there are finite states it can be in (lead out, or lead in)
