Regarding Midterm III...
- I will be having Midterm Review Office Hours on Wednesday (10/31) from
5:30 to 8:00
in the International House Cafe. It is Halloween, so I might
end up leaving a bit early.
- The Wednesday and Thursday sections will be an informal
review session / office hours
-- I plan to go over some of the practice problems handed out last week.
- The review sheet I handed out in section is available below.

Regarding Midterm II...
- I will be having Midterm Review Office Hours on Monday (10/8) from
6:30 to 9:00
in the International House Cafe
- The Wednesday section (right before the exam) will be an informal
review session / office hours
-- I plan to go over some of the practice problems handed out last week.
- The Thursday section (after the mditerm) is cancelled. However, people
in my Thursday section are invited to come to the Wednesday section (4-5
3105 Etch). It's about a3 minute walk to Pimentel.
- The review sheet I handed out in section is available below. I've made
several changes to it (since I made several mistakes in the first version)
which I have highlighted in bold.

Regarding Midterm I...
- I will be have Midterm Review Office Hours on Monday (9/17) from
6:30 to 9:00
in the International House Cafe
- At the behest of students, both my Wednesday and Thursday sections are effectively cancelled this week.
I will be there in both rooms, but I won't cover any new material. If
anybody shows up, we'll use the hour to go over the answers to the midterm.
Attendance is strictly optional, and you won't miss anything by not coming.

Monday is Labor Day...
So people who are in my Monday 4-6 lab have a 1-week extention:
Monday people have until 6:00pm on Monday, Sept 17, to complete
Lab 2 and get it checked off by me or
another TA. This applies only to people in my Monday section -- Lab 2
is still due on-time (Sept 11 at the absolute latest) for people in my
Tuesday lab.

About Newsgroups...
Since, for many people, this is the first in a long series of CS classes,
I thought that it would be worthwhile to point out how useful the class
newsgroups (ucb.class.cs3 for our class) can
be:
Over the last three days, I've received about 30 emails from people with
questions about homework, labs, Dr. Scheme, etc., and I haven't yet had a
chance to respond to any of them -- I'm only one person, and, right now,
administrative issues are my priority. The newsgroup, however,
consists of 300 other students (some of whom will
have the same questions as you do, and some of whom will have the answers) and
an experienced TA who is devoted to answering these questions as
quickly as they come up. Obviously, if you want a timely answer to your
question, the newsgroup is a much better bet than your already-overworked TA.
I think that there are three rules for newsgroup posting:
- Your question is a good candidate for posting if you think that it may
of general interest to the class. (E.g. a question about a bug in Dr. Scheme
or a question about a homework problem is prime for posting.) However, you
should think twice about posting personal information or things that are of
no general interest (E.g. Bragging about your score on the midterm.) --
this tends to just irritate people.
- Before you post a new question, read over the newsgorup to see if your
question has already been asked (and answered) -- you may save yourself (and
others) some time.
- Most importantly, don't forget that the newsgroup is a community. If you
think that you know the answer to someone's question, then do not hesitate to
post it -- you'll help that person out, and, when it comes your turn to ask
the question, other people will be much more likely to post their answers.

Welcome to CS3.
Things are still in a state of flux, so please bear with us as we try to
figure out homework due dates, office hours, etc. If you have emailed me about
your enrollment situation, I will respond to you as soon as I
find out more information.
